ANOTHER BROKEN STRING

Today my Head Synthetic gut with Duraflex broke. I stringed it to 60 lbs , which is the max with this Mach3 Wilson Frame.  The string only lasted 2.5 weeks. I am a little disappointed that she broke that fast. Next week I will return to Canada, so I guess Tennis will get a brake. Hope I get one more opportunity to look at the Wilson racquet line up in Cebu.

WOW THE WHOLE LINE UP WAS HEAD LIGHT

Tomorrow I will fly out to Canada. But today I had a chance to look at different sizes of the KFactor Blade.  I am so pumped to get my hands on these racquets. Nearly all the racquets I touched are not head heavy. The head when balanced at the throat with the index finger is about at the 2 o’clock position.  I just love the feel of the swing when playing a head light racquet and volleying is just so much more fun. Now over the next 2 weeks I will check the line up of models from the suppliers in China. But first my comes my Brothers store which I have to take over and run for 5 month.

Doubles Win Percentage still high

Still happy about my progression. Doubles has always been good to me. I win about 8 out of 10 Doubles matches, but don’t keep a record like I do for my Singles matches. This week I have played a few matches on clay. The ball sits up a lot and your volley tends to lack pace. Your really need to focus on good volley execution or the opponent can get to it. You also have to pick your poaching spots accurately, as the ball will sit up longer and gives the opponent more time to respond and to deal with poaching. Your really need to focus on reading the shoulder and hip positions of your opponent correctly

SURRENDER AT 5:2

My practice is paying off.  I was very kaput these past 2 days and trying to play from the baseline is a very important issue.  Siegfried is a singles player and does not enjoy playing doubles. So when I am there like this morning, than we play singles.

I played not that well, but I played him from the baseline. Kind of strange when u start playing form the baseline instead of serve and volley and a charging game. You become so much pickier in what you consider to be a good attack shot to approach to the net.

I am still very nervous when playing from the Baseline. Maybe that all is created from the lack of real practice to sort out the aspects of baseline playing.

Siegfried, like everyone else here, lacks stamina. But that is not the case in North America.  I am looking forward to train with a ball machine.

15 MINUTES TO REMEMBER. THE HIT ZONE

In the last two days we really focus on improving the backhand. Tendency is to hit far more forehand than backhand. It is important therefore to create focus training for the backhand.

Yesterday I experienced an amazing 15 minutes. After having hit already for over one hour the backhand, I ended up, all of a sudden, in a hitting zone. No matter what situation I was in, my backhand was always ready and centered. I could hit it anywhere, from any postion, low or high and it would always stay in the court.

Once you experience that, everything within is searching to get back into this hitting zone. The feeling is just so amazing when it happens.

DOWN THE LINE, A MUST FOR YOUR GAME

The down the line shot is a crucial aspect of your game. Without it, you can neither open up the court nor can you hold the opponent to the last moment.

You are considerably more predictable in your shot selection with out it. Once your down the line shot develops, you will see right away, that your opponent will have to honor that, by stepping closer to that side.

The court is so short, that there is really no alternative than to get closer to the down the line side of the court. For you a chance to hold him there and only at the last moment pull the trigger to go crosscourt. One you done that a few time, you will than reverse, indicating to go cross court , but pull at the last moment the down the line.

Make sure you don’t over hit, but get it in there. Let him worry about, how to get that down the line shot back.

ANOTHER 8:0 MATCH WIN IN THE BANK

Again the score looks very one sided. Maybe it is. It is difficult to evaluate one self.

But for me 2 things are standing out, for improvement. I have to loose my tense attitude, which has a negative impact on my stroke. And I need to calm more down when I hit from the base line.

I missed a few over the shoulder volleys and need to correct that. But I also feel that the racquet is part of that solution. A head heavy racquet is for me, not a good volley racquet. The whole issues of accelerating and slowing down the racquet head is at the net even more critical.

Although at the net we are not in a full stroke situation, but in a serve and volley game, you whole body is in forward motion and there is an acceleration and slowing down of the racquet head involved. When you respond to high balls traveling at shoulder height, reaching you with in a fraction of time, your racquet head has to rise to that height also in a fraction of a second and still has to have time left to prepare for impact.

A head heavy racquet takes significantly longer to elevate. Another form of acceleration, vertical in this case. Naturally at the same moment a head heavy racquet will drop faster to a low volley, but the critical aspect in the low volley is not the racquet, it is your knee bend action.
If your knees don’t give in enough, the ball will sit low on the low side of the head and is very difficult to lift the ball with effectiveness over the net.

I will try to talk next time about the importance of practicing the down the line shot execution.

MY MATCH RECORD GOES TO  WINS:  15:3    GAMES: 140:84

FINALLY 8:0 WIN IN THE BANK. OPPONENT SURRENDERS AT 5:2 IN THE SECOND SET TO 8

Was it ever hot already at 8 am  in the morning.  There is not much to report. I was tired and stayed back. We had already been hitting for 2 hours when the opponent arrived. This opponent should never been able to mount a serious challenge.

After an 8:0 set he asked to my surprise to add another set. But now it is already past 8 and the heat is scorching here in the Philippines. He surrendered, being behind 5:2 to the Heat.

If I look past the result, I can still observe, to my concern, that I am way to tense and that my high expectations stand in the way of my hitting skills.

Don’t really know jet how I will fix that, to free up my swing and overall game. I also need to deal with the over head shots sooner or later. Certainly my weakness.

MY MATCH RECORD GOES TO  WINS:  14:3    GAMES: 132:84

TAKING A FIRST LOOK AT THE WILSON KFACTOR RACQUETS

I had to go to Cebu anyway to restring my Wilson Mach 3 with a better synthetic gut from HEAD. So I took the opportunity to look at the Wilson line up they had there.

Basically 4 racquets:

1. Roger Federer’s last year racquet the K Six One Tour with 90”.  He is identical n weight to this Wilson March 3 (112”) 325 grams.
But what a stunning balance. The Head is at the 2 o’clock position. Quite contrary to the 5 o’clock position of this one. When balancing on the throat with the index finger.  I can only wonder in anticipation how it must be to volley and come through the ball.

2. KFactor Zen (103”) Not my kind of racquet. Don’t like the form and the thickness in the front end of the racquet.

3. K Factor 4 (112”) could be a good doubles choice, but I think the next racquet I saw is much more versatile. The main difference though it belongs to the ncode line.

4. Ncode (100”) I have to go back to check the exact name again. There are too many racquets in this line with nearly identical names. He was white and had a beautiful even head, with no excessive width in the heads thickness. The balance was a perfect neutral and he was light in the 285 gram area.

I will start soon another Blog where I will write about testing the Tennis racquets. Looks like we will set up for importing for the first time in early May.

SMORTY!!! ARE THEY EVER FAST

The other day my Blog was accepted by Smorty. Smorty is a service connecting us the Bloggers with the advertising community. We, the bloggers go to an advertisers site and take a deeper look at there business. Our opinion counts and I for myself enjoy evaluating other sites.

Getting paid to blog is in itself always a big moment. Right away there were 3 opportunities presented to evaluate a website business. In this case my first opinion was to look at an ecommerce store. Interestingly enough, that is what I have been working on for the past 3 weeks.

Once you log into Smorty you find your account and details presenting it well structured.  But for me one and the same thing is always a big issue. If I need help, do I get speedy answers?

But what a stunning surprise. I send my email for help and basically headed towards the bedroom. It was late and I thought the response will not be in anyway before I get up.

I barely took a few steps, when the return answer arrived.  NOW THAT IS SERVICE SPEED. Within 3 minutes we exchanged 3 emails and resolved the problem.

If Smorty responds that fast to me the Blogger, I am certain you are in good hands when you advertise on blogs.

WOW ASHOP COMMERCE. SHOPPING CART SOLUTION AND A WHOLE LOT MORE

To go looking for a Shopping Cart on the Internet is without a doubt, a major task and the decision, which one to give the go, can be quite demanding. Deciding to create an online cart really should bring up questions. Like what else do I need? How does support look like? Are there enough options? What kind of Tutorials they use? What kind of help is there if I am stuck with the design end? Do I have to spread out everywhere to find the missing components or do I find them all in one house?

The kind of thoughts and question, you need to address. Here is a solution; you might want to consider taking a closer look at the shopping cart software of  “ASHOP COMMERCE”.  Arriving at there site, the first 2 things I noticed right away: 1. Online chat support  2. A free trial not based on a credit card set up.

I personally hate credit card trials and leave any site immediately, which runs business that way. Alone mentioning it shows that these guys really understand the value of a Free Trial. I also favor companies, who run an online chat service. It is just so much better to deal with problems or even less demanding issues to save time.  There product line contains 4 flexible choices which are geographically organized into USA, UK and Australia.

There are substantial add on services available to help your site to establish an internet presence. Here are some of the key components: Web Promo, Design Services, Domain Registration, Ecommerce Tips & Tools, Video Tutorials,  Online Chat Service and most of all you can TEST DRIVE THE SYSTEM FOR 10 DAYS FREE.

When it comes to a shopping cart, you will most likely put in some footwork to make a decision on your ecommerce software. Make your feet stop here at “ASHOP COMMERCE”: It’s worth your time.

FOLLOW UP WIN CONFIRMS PROGRESS 8:1

Siegfried followed up with another Tennis challenge in the morning.  I felt tired and did not play overall as well as the day before. Once I felt the level of tiredness, which easily comes out when u serve, I decided to be less aggressive and stay a little bit more on the baseline.

My focus was to really make sure that I put all my returns in play and continue to learn to keep my balls from the baseline in play. Reducing errors and let the opponent figure out how to beat me was and is the main theme for the next weeks.

Naturally when you start on running away with the set, it is always difficult to come back for the opponent, especially if your physical conditioning is not sufficient. Frustration for Siegfried was obvious in the later games. The only game he won was my own lost service game.

We play here to 8 in the Philippines. This maximizes there revenue. A fee is charged per match, and because it is a hot country, they are all sensitive towards the length of a match.

After the match I continued to hit with the ball boys and luckily my Dunlop synthetic gut (gauge 17) broke after only 8 days or so.

Today I played with a Prince Duraflex 16 gage. 60 pounds is the max rating of the frame and that is what I play with. What an amazing difference. The racquet sound has changed nicely and the ball comes totally different of the strings. It is now easier to lift the ball and it looks like that I finally can go down the line with more authority in the stroke.

Down the line it is always crucial to be able to lift the ball over the higher part of the net. But not only higher, but the court is also at its shortest, and because you are most likely inside the court when you attack down the line, the net is even higher and the court even shorter, so to say, and you still need enough pace to execute.

I still don’t like to play a head heavy racquet, like this particular Wilson is. It just takes too long to raise the racquet head for all the higher volleys which come at high speed at you.  I also noticed that on the back swing for the forehand I tend to be too often late.

There is much to learn and improve, before I am ready for the next level of players.

The kind of guys, who can actually serve. Than come the guys, who can serve and rally.

And than comes the level I played once double with for a short time. They kind of player, who has any stroke and can not only serve, but can throw at you multiple different kind of junk serves, to keep you off balance in your return game. So you can never dominate the return. I mean super quality junk serves. If you ever face one, who can put 3 or 4 different spins on a serve, you will know how tough that is.

Slice, top spin, inside and outside spinning serves and that is mixed with different power levels. That is just the junk. And than they have a set of formidable first and second serves, which demand from you to be an above average “return serve” Tennis player.

My foot speed and stamina are also not in place jet to get past them. We will see.

My Match record goes to 13:3 with 119:82 Games.

BITTER LOSS OVERCOME WITH A 8:2 WIN

My bitter loss, days earlier is at least in a small way overcome. Although not back to normal, I had more strength available to play my kind of game.  Serve and volley and attack the weak stuff.

Despite playing with this still difficult racquet, there was a good positive forward development. I missed about 2 hits of the baseline, double faulted only once, missed maybe 2 volleys and really focused on not over hitting from the baseline or looking for too much on any hit. Finally I even had a few defensive blocks at the base line in there.

My volley with this racquet showed good progress and it was the first time that I really had another formidable volley execution.

I missed a few easy returns, which accounted for the 2 lost games. Although convincing result with an 8:2 win, but there is still a lot of work to do, before I can say for sure, that level of player will never defeat me again.

My overall record after 17 years of sport absence goes to 12:3 WINS with 111:81 GAMES.
